Become a Member of the Writing Centre

During the COVID-19 Pandemic and while students remain off campus, TWC is online, using the OURVLE platform.  Follow these instructions to register:

TWCP Student Self-Enrolment Instructions 

  1. Log on to OurVLE: https://ourvle.mona.uwi.edu/
  2. Search for TWCP using the search bar at the bottom of the OurVLE main page.
  3. You should see a section titled “TWCP Student Access” appear.
  4. An empty field should be present prompting you to enter the enrolment key. The key for this portal is “Parallel301”.

    a). The key is case sensitive and contains no spaces

    b). Please note the quotations are NOT a part of the key

    c). You will only be prompted to enter this key once; you do not have to enter it each time you access the portal.
  5. Enter the enrolment key and click on the blue “Enrol me” button once.
  6. You should be taken directly into the TWCP portal

Making Appointments Post Pandemic

To make appointments visit  TWC or call  876  935 8233 One-to-one conferences with coaches are 30 minutes each.   When workshops are scheduled you must register (no extra charge) Walk-ins may see a coach but during the semester there might be a long wait. Depending on demand you may not make more than one appointment a day.

If you cannot keep your appointment, please cancel at least one hour in advance ( 876  935 8233  ) The onus is on you to be punctual. If you are 10 minutes late you may lose your slot, or your coaching session will be shortened by 10 minutes depending on how busy  TWC is.

To encourage independent writers and to serve as many as possible not more than three appointments a week are allowed.   

Walk-ins are counted as one appointment. 

Bring a hard or soft copy of your assignment instructions and a hard or a soft copy of what you have written.  Soft copies are only accepted on laptops --- not on cellular telephones.

Role of the Coaches 

  • To be punctual
  • To help you to become independent and confident
  • To listen to your writing plan and help refine NOT to give you a writing plan
  • To remind you that writing is a process
  • To help you to clarify your assignment, generate ideas, organise and help you to generally
  • Improve your writing in collaboration with you.
  •  To talk you through your assignment NOT to do your assignment 
  • To show the strengths and weakness in your writing NOT mark or assign a grade or proofread
  • To encourage you to think critically about ideas and take risks in forming your own

Role of Students

  • To be punctual
  • To have a good attitude
  • To come prepared for your writing conference with notes, drafts, ideas and questions
  • To be prepared to work in collaboration with your coach
  •  To make use of the resources in the Writing Centre between your appointments

NB: Students are not to leave assignments for coaches to edit, mark or proofread.
