Health Tips

From the Counsellors and Psychologists - UHC

  • Recognize the Signs of Depression. Depression is a common illness that often goes unrecognized or undiagnosed. If you notice several of the following persisting for more than two weeks then you should make an appointment at the Counselling Service of the Health Centre for an evaluation.

    • Persistent feelings of sadness
    • Loss of interest in activities that are usually pleasurable
    • Eating more or less and subsequent changes in weight
    • Sleeping too much or too little
    • Feeling worthless or unreasonably guilty
    • Trouble concentrating and making decisions
    • Feeling irritable and angry
    • Feeling hopeless
    • Thinking about suicide and dying

From the Public Health Section – UHC

  • Maintain a Health Weight. Obesity is at an all-time high at this time and may be getting worse. Those who are overweight or obese are at increased risk for diseases and conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke. Eat better, get regular exercise and see your doctor about any health concern you may have.
  • Be Good to Yourself! Health is not merely the absence of disease; it is lifestyle. Whether it is getting enough sleep, relaxing after a stressful day, or enjoying a hobby, it is important to take time to be good to yourself. Take steps to balance work, home, and play. Pay attention to your health and make healthy living a part of your lifestyle.
