S11A 2008 – 09

 SPANISH TUTORING PROGRAMME

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures prides itself to be a student-centered Department and is fully committed to maintaining the standards of quality education set by the UWI.

The Department is starting a pilot programme aimed at improving the level of Spanish of S11A students with an entry level of CSEC 1 and 2 in Spanish, using peer tutors from the third year programme.

After receiving some training, the peer tutors will meet with the S11A students one hour per week to work on the language as well as to give advice on study skills, planning and time management and developing good academic practices.

Peer tutors will be given an outline of the programme which contains the grammatical points being studied during the semester. Students who have been selected to be peer tutors have a very good academic background, strong interpersonal skills, and have a strong commitment to helping.

The programme will begin in the week of October 6 and end the last week of November, 2008.  A book will be kept at the Language Lab for participating students and their peer tutors to sign. The programme will be closely monitored and will continue based on results.

Your ideas and input will be greatly appreciated.

The schedule is as follow:

Wednesday 11-12 noon
Wednesday 2 -3    pm
Wednesday 3 -4 pm
Thursday 12 – 1 pm
