Due to terms and conditions in licensing agreements, access to certain databases, are restricted to registered students, current faculty and staff of the University of the West Indies, Mona. Resources to which this applies are indicated as such. Access to these resources is available as follows:

On Campus: from any computer workstation connected to the University's local area network i.e. in the Library, Computer Labs, Faculty Offices etc.

Off Campus using the ISP (Internet Service Provider) of your choice you will be asked to enter your UWI staff or UWI student Id number and your UWI_Mona or Student domain password

Biomed Central
(Access restricted to UWI Students and Staff) Primarily an electronic publishing platform for scientists. There are over 50 journals published in electronic format by BIOMED.
EbscoHost Research Databases (Access restricted to UWI Students and Staff). Provides access to the following databases.

Emeraldinsight- Full text: Electronic Management Research Library Database (Access restricted to UWI Students and Staff). contains over 25,000 management articles from its archive back to 1989 and provides access to over 130 journals. such as the European Journal of Marketing, International Journal of Operations & Production Management, Personnel Review, The TQM Magazine and Library Management.
Faculty of 1000 biology
First Search from OCLC (Access restricted to UWI Students and Staff). Provides access to more than 15 databases, including:

    BasicBIOSIS: Covers the basic core of life science journals. Includes popular and scholarly science journals.
    EconLit: Journals, books, and working papers on economics
    ERIC: Journal articles and reports on education topics
    GPO: U.S. government publications
    MEDLINE: All areas of medicine, including dentistry and nursing
    MLA: Indexes books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies in literature, language and linguistics,
    WilsonSelectPlus: Full text articles in science, humanities, education and business
    WorldCat: OCLCcatalog of books, web resources, and other material worldwide

HighWire Press (Journals database) (Provides access to over 15 million articles from over 4,500 PubMed journals, including 839,086 free full text articles from 825 HighWire-hosted journals in the Biological, Physical, Medical and Social Sciences.
HINARI - provides free or low cost online access to the major journals in biomedical and related social sciences to local, not-for-profit institutions in developing countries. Please contact the Librarian at the Reference Desk for Username and Password.
IEEE database- The IEEE All-Society Periodicals Package (ASPP) provides access to the IEEE's core collection of over 120 engineering, electronics, and computer science periodicals. This package does not include the full text of conference proceedings, IEEE standards and IET journals. Full text of Transactions starts from 1998.
JSTOR -- offers both multidisciplinary and discipline-specific collections. The UWI library has access to the Arts & Sciences I, Arts & Sciences II, Business, and Language & Literature Collections.
MathSciNet -- a comprehensive database covering the world's mathematical literature since 1940.
Medline (PubMed) The National Library of Medicine's search service that provides access to over 10 million citations in  Medline, PreMEDLINE, and other related databases, with links to participating online journals.
NetLibrary - "digital version of books and database content that you can access 24 hours" each day!
NLM database The NLM Gateway allows users to search in multiple retrieval systems at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). The current Gateway searches MEDLINE/PubMed, TOXLINE Special, LOCATORplus, MedlinePlus, ClinicalTrials.gov, DIRLINE, Meeting Abstracts, HSRProj, OMIM, and HSDB)
Popline from the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Program provides citations with abstracts of the worldwide literature on population, family planning, and related health issues.
Project Muse - is a unique collaboration between libraries and publishers providing 100% full-text, affordable and user-friendly online access to over 300 high quality humanities, arts, and social sciences journals from 60 scholarly publishers.

  • ABI/INFORM Global includes 1800 worldwide business periodicals for in-depth coverage of business and economic conditions, management techniques, theory, and practice of business, advertising, marketing, economics, human resources, finance, taxation, computers, and more. Expanded international coverage. Fast access to information on 60,000 + companies with business and executive profiles. Now includes The Wall Street Journal
  • Academic Research Library Covers a broad range of subjects including arts, business, children, education, general interest, health, humanities, international, law, military, multicultural, psychology, sciences, social sciences, and women's interests.

SCIFINDER SCHOLAR - Bibliographic database, which provides chemical and related scientific information offered by the Chemical Abstracts databases. Information accessed are patents and journal references, substance information, regulated chemicals, chemical reactions and chemical supplier information. Access is limited to three concurrent users and it is available in the Science Library. Contact the reference librarian in Science Library 935-8202 or ext.2202. Access is available in the Main Library in the Postgraduate Reading Room.

Web of Science - Science Citation Index expanded with 5 years backfiles.
Westlaw (please contact the Reference Librarian or the Periodicals Librarian, Main Library for user name and password) Westlaw is West's online legal research service. It provides quick, easy access to West's vast collection of statutes, case law materials, public records, and other legal resources, along with current news articles and business information.

Cardin: Contains disaster related information gathered from the English, Spanish, French and Dutch speaking Caribbean. It is produced as part of the activities Caribbean Disaster Information Network
Caren: the Science Library's in-house database on the Caribbean environment.
Caribbean Child Development Centre's Online Publication Database
Caribbean Digital Library
- A web service of ECLA's Caribbean Documentation Centre. It provides access to Caribbean documents on the web and is artranged by 21 broad headings.
Caribbean Studies Database, 1991 -1996 produced by the Department of Library & Information Studies, indexes Caribbean studies submitted by final year undergraduate students at the University of the West Indies, Mona, in fulfilment of the requirements for the Faculty of Arts & Education UC3X0 courses. Medcarib:Contains information on all aspects on health and medicine relating to the English speaking Caribbean and Suriname. Produced by the Medcarib Network for which the Medical Library is the Regional Coordinating Centre.
