Mrs. Suzanne Ffolkes-Goldson ’87, is an Attorney at Law, Senior Lecturer and former Deputy Dean, in the Faculty of Law at the UWI Mona Campus.  Mrs. Ffolkes Goldson is called to the Bar in Jamaica and Barbados.  She worked briefly as an associate, and then a consultant in corporate and commercial law at the firm Dunn, Cox and Orrett. Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson is also a member of the Implementation Oversight Committee for the Corporate Governance Framework for Public Bodies, Ministry of Finance. The Committee was formed to monitor the implementation of strategic priorities of the Corporate Governance Framework for Public Bodies (2012) and its work has resulted in the approval by Cabinet in 2016 and 2017 of Guidelines on the Roles and Responsibilities of the Corporate Secretary, the Competency Profile Instrument for Boards of Public Bodies and Board Performance Evaluation Instrument.

Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson is a regional expert on issues of corporate governance and company law. She is certified under the Global Corporate Governance Forum/World Bank, IFC, Caribbean Training of Trainers Programme in Corporate Governance Board Leadership and has trained company directors and officials in corporate governance in many companies, public bodies and professional associations in Jamaica.

Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson has developed special expertise on the provisions required for Corporate Governance Codes that meet international standards, and, at the same time, address the corporate reality of emerging markets in the region. Her skill have been utilised as a member of the Corporate Governance Committee of the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ), which is responsible for the drafting and dissemination of corporate governance principles for Jamaica. She chaired the committee for the revised PSOJ Corporate Governance Code 2016, which is referenced in the Jamaica Stock Exchange Rules.

Mrs. Ffolkes-Goldson’s policy work has not only impacted the development of the PSOJ Corporate Governance Code 2016 for Jamaica, but she has been advising the Barbados Stock Exchange on the development of its corporate governance code, which is likely to come into effect in 2019.
