The UWI Wellness Task force

This Task Force is concerned with drafting the wellness policy. The terms of reference of the Task Force has expanded since its inception in 2001 from a student focus to include the University community. The purpose of the WTF is to promote the concept of wellness, focusing on preventive action. Membership is drawn from selected groups across the campus and includes the UWI Health Centre. The Task Force is guided by the following principle:
“The Wellness Initiative promotes individual wellbeing through a balance in social, cultural, physical, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, environmental, and life planning activities”.

A Pilot Survey on wellness was conducted among students in mid-2004 and the findings of this and other such studies will provide the UWI with information on wellness issues for the student population and can be used to inform health promotion programmes for the student .
