About Us
The Map Library houses the Department's collection of maps. This includes:
- 1:12,500 scale topographic series (Imperial)
- 1:50,000 scale topographic series (Imperial)
- 1:250,000 scale topographic map (Imperial)
- 1:50,000 scale topographic Series (Metric)
- 1:50,000 scale geological maps (Imperial)
- 1:250,000 scale geological map (Imperial)
Other topographic and geological maps from the greater Caribbean region and elswhere in the World are also available.
The Map Library also houses the Department's collection of aerial photographs.
Students can use the Map Library for private study purposes and also to sign out course material for the various courses in Geography and Geology that they attend. |

The Library houses the periodicals taken by the Department. It also serves as a seminar and meeting room |
The optics laboratory is a research facility for microscopy and photomicroscopy. It house research microscopes, point counters and photomicrograph facilities. |
The Sedimentology Laboratory is a 'web lab' preparation laboratory. It contains standard drying, wet-seiving and dry seiving facilities. |
The Chemistry Laboratory is used for the prepartion of acids for field and laboratory use. It is also used for the staining of rocks and thin sections to aid in the identification of minerals. |
The Dark Room is used for developing film and printing photographs. Although this facility is less in demard with the advent of digital photography, these techniques are also used for producing photographs from acetate peels. |
Rock Preparation Laboratory

The Rock Prepartion Laboratory is used for the cutting of rocks and the preparation of thin sections for teaching and research. |
